Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an IT automation engineer to support SCADA systems and oversee OT environments across DEP facilities. You will design, implement, and maintain SCADA components, perform troubleshooting, and coordinate with field technicians and IT teams to ensure reliability.

The role emphasizes security, thorough documentation, and hands-on configuration of RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and telemetry gear, with occasional facility travel as required.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in computer science or engineering with four years of related IT automation experience, or eight years without a degree.
• Experience with PLCs and SCADA hardware/software.
• Knowledge of security standards and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for SCADA systems, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA systems.
• Configure and test SCADA software and hardware to ensure proper functioning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues with SCADA systems.
• Oversee and provide day-to-day maintenance and support of all components related to the facilities’ OT environment.
• Responsible for the configuration, installation, support and maintenance for all monitoring and control equipment including RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, data communications equipment and services, computer hardware, and other telemetry devices.
• Work with third party vendors/contractors to ensure proper installation, reliability, accuracy, and maintenance of all computer hardware and supporting control systems associated with SCADA.
