Job summary

MGE is seeking a Real-Time EMS/SCADA Engineer to support and optimize our critical transmission and distribution operations in Madison, WI. The role focuses on ensuring telemetry accuracy, system reliability, and seamless integration across EMS, SCADA, and GIS platforms.

You will work in a hybrid setup with on-site presence at our Madison headquarters and collaborate with control room operators to maintain operational readiness, especially during storms and high-impact events.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting real-time operational systems.
• Hands-on work with EMS, SCADA, preferably GEV eTerra or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in live environments.
• Understanding of telemetry and communications (e.g., DNP3, ICCP).

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot EMS and SCADA environments (production, test, training).
• Ensure accuracy of telemetry, controls, alarms, and operator displays.
• Support upgrades, patching, and integration efforts.
• Investigate and resolve issues impacting real-time system performance.
• Work directly with control room operators to support day-to-day operations.
• Develop, validate, and maintain system models across transmission, distribution, and generation.
• Perform telemetry mapping, corrections, and validation.
• Validate system behavior to reflect real-world conditions.
• Support EMS upgrades and system integration initiatives.

What You’ll Own

Real-Time EMS & SCADA Systems

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot EMS and SCADA environments (production, test, training)
• Ensure accuracy of telemetry, controls, alarms, and operator displays

Operational Support & System Reliability

• Investigate and resolve issues impacting real‑time system performance

• Contribute to EMS upgrades and system integration initiatives
• Support expanding telemetry across DER and emerging technologies
• Work across engineering, IT, and operations to improve system performance

What We’re Looking For

Core Experience

• Experience supporting real‑time operational systems
• Hands‑on work with EMS, SCADA, preferably GEV eTerra or similar
• Strong troubleshooting skills in live environments
• Understanding of telemetry and communications (e.g., DNP3, ICCP)

Valued Experience

• Exposure to control room or operations center environments
• Experience with EMS, ADMS, or DMS platforms
• Understanding of power systems or industrial operations

Work Location

This hybrid role is based at our Madison, WI headquarters. While three days onsite is the minimum, team collaboration and business needs may require additional in‑office presence.
