Job summary

PTS Advance is seeking a Controls Engineer to support multiple production facilities by improving automation, system reliability, and operational efficiency. The role focuses on optimizing continuous manufacturing processes, with emphasis on PLC programming, drive systems, and standardization.

Responsibilities include programming and troubleshooting Siemens PLCs, developing P&IDs and control narratives, supporting upgrades, and mentoring technicians.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with PLC programming (Siemens platforms).
  • Knowledge of industrial drive systems and motion control.

Position Overview

An established industrial manufacturer is seeking a Controls Engineer to support multiple production facilities by improving automation, system reliability, and operational efficiency. This role focuses on optimizing both new and existing continuous manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on PLC programming, drive systems, and system standardization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and enhance automation, controls, and drive systems across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLC systems (primarily Siemens platforms).
  • Develop and maintain P&IDs, control narratives, and system documentation.
  • Design and implement control strategies for continuous production processes.
  • Configure network settings, communication protocols, and PLC messaging.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems using schematics and technical drawings.
  • Work with drive systems including AC/DC drives, variable frequency drives, and motion control systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish standardized controls, hardware, and programming practices.
  • Provide technical support for system upgrades, installations, and commissioning activities.
  • Partner with external vendors and contractors to specify and implement controls solutions.
  • Mentor and train technicians, engineers, and maintenance personnel.
  • Identify and implement new technologies to improve performance and reliability.
  • Build relationships with plant stakeholders to identify and support capital and improvement projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with PLC programming (Siemens Step 7, S7, or similar platforms).
  • Knowledge of industrial drive systems and motion control (e.g., Siemens S120 or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems (AVEVA System Platform).
  • Experience with HMI development and object-oriented programming concepts is a plus.

  • Participation in on-call or rotating support schedules may be required.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work in physically active environments.
