Job summary

Cognify Global is seeking a Control Engineer in Indianapolis with 3+ years of experience in industrial automation. You will design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and develop HMI applications for automated equipment.

Travel up to 35% to support customer installations, FAT/SAT, and service activities. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics and experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi) and HMI/SCADA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation engineering, or related field.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC systems (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi).
  • Experience developing and configuring HMI/SCADA applications.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain HMI applications for industrial automation systems.
  • Perform system integration, testing, commissioning, and startup of automated equipment.
  • Modify and optimize existing control systems to improve performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and automation issues remotely and onsite.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams throughout project execution.
  • Support FAT, SAT, and customer training.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams as needed.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Control Engineer with at least 3 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming, system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of automated equipment. This role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, and a willingness to travel up to 35% to support customer installations, startups, and service activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain HMI applications for industrial automation systems.
  • Perform system integration, testing, commissioning, and startup of automated equipment.
  • Modify and optimize existing control systems to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and automation issues both remotely and onsite.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams throughout project execution.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer training.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable safety regulations.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams as needed.
  • Travel up to 35% for customer site visits, installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and support.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC systems (such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi).
  • Experience developing and configuring HMI/SCADA applications.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, or Profibus.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 35%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with motion control systems, servo drives, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Familiarity with industrial robotics and machine safety systems.
  • Experience with vision systems and industrial networking.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
  • Experience in manufacturing, packaging, material handling, automotive, food & beverage, or process automation industries.
