Job Overview

The Saw Machine Operator will mainly work with heavy machinery. This position requires a strong understanding of the machines, must be reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. This role ensures the uninterrupted and efficient running of a smooth production workflow. In a fast-paced environment like production, this position is an integral part of the manufacturing process. Being a team player is essential since all tasks require close collaboration with co-workers.

The goal is to ensure production procedures are carried out smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Sets up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start and maintain production cycle efficiently; ensures output of machines meet high-quality standards.
• Control and adjust machine settings (e.g. speed) as needed.
• Feed raw material or parts to semi-automated machines.
• Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools.
• Test operation of machines periodically.
• Fix issues that occur during the shift.
• Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws; solve problems as detected.
• Maintain records of approved and defective units or final products; maintains activity logs.
• Adheres to strict health and safety guidelines as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Company policies.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to follow instructions from Team Lead.
• Understanding of industry standards and regulations in order to safely and efficiently operate high-speed machinery and tools properly.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of PPE gear).
• Ability to analyze situations and find solutions; strong attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work and communicate well with others.
• Physical stamina and strength.
• Self-motivated with a results-driven approach.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus.
• Aptitude for math, problem-solving, computers, and mechanics.
• Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary.
• 2+ years machine operator experience in a manufacturing environment recommended.
• Safety and OSHA training required.
