Production Lead – Job Summary
The Production Lead Machine Operator is responsible for the safe operation of production machinery and for leading a team of operators and assistants. This role ensures efficient production processes while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the crew including operators, operator assistants, feeders, packers, and inspectors on the machine.
Act as the production supervisor as needed.
Support and participate in company initiatives including LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement programs.
Operate production machinery in accordance with job specifications and prints.
Strive for operational excellence within established tolerances.
Obtain and review job tickets prior to running orders.
Measure finished parts using precision tools to ensure quality and specification compliance.
Maintain logs and production records, including documentation of errors and rejected pieces.
Inspect equipment prior to use and perform basic adjustments and maintenance.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Ensure proper machine and task hand-offs between shifts.
Perform preventive maintenance.
Set and enforce break and lunch schedules in line with company policy.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Strong understanding of—or ability to quickly learn—production equipment
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Skilled in troubleshooting and debugging equipment in-house or at customer locations
High attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in basic computer use and data entry
Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and GPI’s 7 Safety Absolutes
Visual color discrimination (ability to detect and match colors and shades)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong leadership and team management skills
Consistent and reliable attendance
Ability to coordinate and supervise daily production activities
Ensure timely and efficient achievement of production goals
Monitor and improve production performance
Enforce safety and quality standards
Train and mentor staff on equipment and processes
Uphold company policies consistently and fairly
Monitor inventory and manage stock rotation
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently
