Job summary

Amazon Leo in Redmond, WA seeks an Aerospace Hardware Development Engineer to design and test hardware for satellite applications, collaborating across ground and space systems.

You will drive hardware development from concept through qualification, supporting new satellite generations, leading test campaigns, and delivering flight-qualified hardware with clear documentation for engineering and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Master's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in hardware design.
  • Experience with test plan development, building the necessary test bench infrastructure, developing tests and verifying the design.
  • Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate hardware components, assemblies, and software solutions—from circuit boards to onboard power management systems for flight applicability.
  • Develop closed-loop control algorithms leveraging sensor peripherals, microcontrollers, and custom silicon, and innovative hardware designs.
  • Implement hardware design strategies to mitigate product risks to stakeholders.
  • Work with avionics, payload, radiation, power, mechanical, thermal, RF, and software teams to gather requirements and prepare for hardware integration.
  • Collaborate with responsible engineers, manufacturing engineers, software developers, tooling teams, and ground support teams to deliver flight-qualified hardware ready for launch.
  • Communicate hardware design risks and mitigation plans across teams to ensure mission success.
  • Enable data-driven performance insights through automated test execution and analysis pipelines using Python.
  • Work hands-on with hardware test equipment.
  • Define and execute software release processes, CI/CD, and quality verification.
