Job summary

Apex Technology, Inc. seeks an Operating Systems Engineer to design and own mission-critical embedded Linux software for satellite flight control based in Los Angeles.

You will build robust software that operates a spacecraft 24/7 and collaborate with mission ops, GNC, and hardware teams to prototype and deploy new systems. The role emphasizes solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment, with opportunities for impact across aerospace and new space sectors.

Qualifications

• U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, EE or equivalent, or equivalent professional experience.
• 2+ years writing code for operating systems, ideally Yocto or embedded Linux on spacecraft, robotics, automotive, or other hardware that interacts with the physical world.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own mission-critical software for satellite systems throughout the full software lifecycle, from initial architecture and development through deployment and operations.
• Develop, configure, and maintain embedded Linux platforms and bootloader frameworks, including Yocto, Buildroot, WolfBoot, and U-Boot.
• Design, implement, and validate firmware update mechanisms, including bootloader integration, secure firmware deployment, and recovery procedures.
• Design and implement security enhancements across complex software architectures to improve system integrity, resilience, and secure operation.
