Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC is seeking a Communications Engineer in Modeling and Simulation to develop and analyze high-level resource allocation for Leo’s satellite links, focusing on capacity, coverage, power, and availability.

You will extend MATLAB models, design fronthaul/backhaul strategies, assess link budgets, and collaborate with operations teams to validate system-level performance as the constellation grows.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• 5+ years in satellite system design, modeling, and analysis.
• 4+ years of MATLAB development and regression practices.
• Experience conducting and documenting trade studies and design trades.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead Leo's overall communications system design and architecture.
• Extend existing code/tools; create MATLAB simulations.
• Design interconnection strategies between fronthaul and backhaul nodes and optimize for network performance.
• Model time-varying capacity using RF and optical link budgets with orbital dynamics.
• Perform trade-off analyses to optimize resources (costs, power, spectrum).
• Collaborate with implementation teams to simulate system performance and provide feedback.
• Analyze and minimize potential self-interference or interference with other systems.
• Provide visualizations and document results for cross-team architectural decisions.
