Job summary

Champlain Valley School District (VT) is seeking a dedicated SAP Counselor for Shelburne Community School to support adolescent well-being and school success. The role focuses on prevention, screening, intervention, and referral services within a school-based setting.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with substance abuse prevention, strong communication skills, and appropriate licensure or certification.

Qualifications

• Experience in substance abuse prevention, intervention, and recovery.
• Strong knowledge of adolescent mental health.
• Bachelor degree preferred.
• Licensure or certification such as CADC/LADC or Vermont educator license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide intervention and confidential screening for students with substance use, stress, or relational issues.
• Offer individual and group counseling focused on stress, relationships, and substance use.
• Deliver ATOD prevention education and staff training.
• Support teachers with teaching Skills for Life classes across grades 5–8.
• Screen and refer students to appropriate services and agencies.
• Provide case management and re-integration support for students entering or returning from treatment.
• Participate in student support teams and collaborate with outside agencies.
• Maintain client confidentiality per federal regulations.
