Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. is hiring a Sampling Technician at the Tyrone copper complex to identify drill holes for sampling, collect representative samples, and support analytical lab tasks.

You will ensure proper labeling, maintain safety practices, and assist ore control and surveying staff as needed. The role requires about one year of relevant experience, knowledge of sampling equipment, and the ability to operate and maintain lab-ready processes in a 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• One year experience in an area relevant to the assignment.
• Knowledge of sampling equipment, processes, methods and techniques.
• Able to conduct preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Skilled in planning, prioritizing and scheduling daily work assignments.
• Skill in safely using, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment, including GIS/GPS mapping techniques.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of site processes, equipment and infrastructure.
• Able to use a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Identify which drill holes require sampling from the Drill Pattern. Must work closely and coordinate work schedule with dispatch and/or drilling and blasting.
• Obtain representative samples following the appropriate SOP's. Ensures that samples are obtained from equally spaced locations within the drill hole, that the minimum sample weight is obtained, that samples are correctly labeled, etc.
• Assists with quality control; for those sample locations that are identified as locations for duplicate samples, repeats the sampling process on the same blast hole. Ensures that the duplicate samples are correctly labeled and that both the original and the duplicate are identified accordingly for laboratory staff.
• Transport and deliver all samples to the assay laboratory, in a timely manner.
• May perform entry level analytical laboratory tasks to prepare samples for analysis or assist with routine chemical analysis and reporting tasks.
• May provide technical support to ore control and surveying staff, as required.
• Responsible for verifying that equipment is functional and operating properly.
• Ensures that all sampling equipment is cleaned after each sample has been taken.
• Perform other duties as required.
