Job summary

BDO USA is seeking a State & Local Tax Director to lead the SALT practice, mentor staff, and drive client relationships and market development. The role partners with Principals and Managing Directors to deliver high-quality tax services and tax strategy.

Ideal candidates bring nine or more years of SALT experience, CPA or equivalent certification, and advanced degree preferences. The role emphasizes leadership, project management, and client-focused service across divisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (required or preferred).
• Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
• Juris Doctorate (preferred).
• Nine or more years of SALT experience (required).
• CPA certification or other relevant certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Identifies situations necessitating additional research and reviews state guidance.
• Analyzes client facts and develops strategies for clarification with authorities.
• Prepares formal memoranda and positions on state tax treatment.
• Represents clients before state and local tax authorities on contested issues.
