Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a Sales & Use Tax Accountant to manage multi-jurisdiction tax compliance in Lexington, KY. You will file returns, review tax treatments, research regulations, and support audits across accounting and operations teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and 2+ years in sales and use tax, with strong Excel and ERP experience to ensure accurate reporting and timely filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of sales and use tax, indirect tax, or general tax experience preferred.
• Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations.
• Experience with tax research and tax compliance software.
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems/ERP platforms.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns.
• Research state and local tax regulations and monitor legislative changes that may impact the organization.
• Review transactions for proper sales and use tax treatment and identify potential compliance issues.
• Analyze exemption certificates and maintain supporting documentation.
• Respond to tax notices, inquiries, and requests from taxing authorities.
• Assist with sales and use tax audits, including gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile sales tax payable accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate tax records and filing calendars.
• Support business license renewals and other indirect tax compliance requirements.
• Partner with accounting, finance, operations, and external advisors on tax-related matters.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance tax compliance and efficiency.
• Assist with special projects and other tax-related responsibilities as assigned.
