Job summary

ABB Inc. in New Berlin, WI and Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Bid Manager to lead the proposal process and manage technical aspects of variable frequency drive and motor equipment packages for heavy industry projects.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Interface with project execution and commissioning teams to outline schedules.
  • Lead internal risk reviews covering technical, financial and commercial aspects.
  • Establish and maintain effective customer relationships throughout the sales process.
  • Identify risks and coordinate mitigation with Project Execution.
  • Identify potential vendors and collaborate on pricing with Supply Chain.

Position reports to:

Tendering Manager, Packaging

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the project bid process and technical aspects of applications in heavy industries where variable speed drive and motor equipment packages are required. And not only that; the successful candidate will also provide support in early stages of project sales cycles, resolve contractual issues, and support negotiations through which those variable speed drives and motors are sold. Further, you will articulate our manufacturing, delivery, and commissioning processes to our customers. This role is contributing to the Motion High Power Division, Packaging Business Line in New Berlin, WI and Houston, TX area.

You will be mainly accountable to:
  • Project Proposal Management: Lead proposal activities for assigned variable frequency drive system pursuits for End Users, EPCs, and Project OEM Customers. Review Customer specifications, lead system dimensioning and product configurations, specify equipment for sub‑suppliers, support contract reviews and Terms and Conditions negotiations. Interface with project execution and commissioning teams to outline and/or validate preliminary project schedules and commissioning services. Lead internal Project Risk Review process covering technical, financial, and commercial aspects of proposals.

  • Customer Relationships: Establish and maintain effective customer relationships and ensure a positive customer experience throughout the sales process.

  • Risk Management: Identify risks and opportunities resulting from Customer requirements and specifications and prescribe ways to mitigate those risks through actions in coordination with the Project Execution team.

  • Supplier Management: Help identify potential vendors for equipment and materials required in projects through evaluation of supplier proposals against Customer or ABB internal specifications. Work with primary vendors on standardized pricing agreements in collaboration with Supply Chain Management.

  • Presentation Skills: Prepare and deliver Customer‑ready product and solution presentations for different applications, both virtually and at Customer locations.

  • Specification Influencing: Work with the project sales team and our customers to position our products and services as a means to helping Customers solve their challenging problems. Ensure the value we have to offer is communicated, understood, and appreciated, enabling ABB to partner with Customers and provide solutions for their projects.

Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 10+ years business experience in related areas; e.g., Sales, Product Engineering, Technical Support, Application Engineering, Test Engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge about medium voltage variable speed drives and applications. Commercial astuteness.
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Travel requirement – 20–40%.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

While base salary is determined by your qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $98,700 and $157,920 annually and is eligible for a short‑term incentive plan/annual bonus.
