Job summary

Citi, Inc. in Atlanta, GA seeks a Sales Manager / Estimator to oversee regional estimating efforts, review plans, develop detailed scopes, and deliver accurate cost estimates. You will guide management on project pursuit and collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure competitive proposals.

The Chief Estimator will lead an estimating team, set standards, and drive process improvements while engaging with clients and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 10+ years of estimating experience in industrial systems integration, electrical, or controls projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents; cost estimation proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead evaluation and opportunity management, identifying and pursuing project leads aligned with capabilities.
  • Develop detailed project scopes and comprehensive estimates including labor, materials, subcontractors, and contingencies.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to estimating staff; establish standards, templates, and best practices.

Job description

Job Summary

The Sales Manager / Estimator leads the regional company’s estimating efforts, providing strategic oversight, technical expertise, and guidance in evaluating project opportunities. This role is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, developing detailed scopes of work, creating accurate cost estimates, and advising management on which project leads to pursue. The Chief Estimator serves as a key member of the leadership team, collaborating closely with project managers, engineering, and operations to ensure competitive, profitable, and technically sound proposals.

Duties And Essential Job Functions
Lead Evaluation & Opportunity Management
  • Monitor plan holder sites and other sources to evaluate project leads and identify opportunities aligned with company capabilities.
  • Collaborate with management to determine which projects and opportunities the company should pursue.
  • Conduct preliminary assessments of projects to evaluate feasibility, risks, and potential profitability.
Proposal Development & Estimating
  • Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop detailed project scope and deliverables.
  • Prepare accurate, comprehensive estimates including labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and contingencies.
  • Develop detailed proposal documents, including pricing, schedules, and technical approach summaries.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, resource availability, and company standards.
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to estimating staff, promoting consistent and accurate estimating practices.
  • Establish and maintain estimating standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes, workflow efficiency, and documentation accuracy.
  • Support the development of training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives for the estimating team.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Participate in client meetings and pre-bid reviews as needed to clarify requirements and scope.
  • Communicate effectively with management and project teams regarding estimating assumptions, risks, and recommendations.
  • Assist in strategic decision-making regarding pursuing or declining project opportunities.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Skills
  • 10+ years of estimating experience in industrial systems integration, electrical, or controls projects, with progressive responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proven ability to develop detailed scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIORNMENT
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand/power tools, computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices.
  • Physically able to travel to job sites to perform panel installation or modifications, assist in the startup of panel and instrumentation systems.
  • Extended hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines. This may include weekdays, weekends or holidays. May be assigned to work at a Client’s facility or site for an extended period of time.
  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
