Job summary

Dynalectric Oregon in Portland seeks an experienced Estimator to join our electrical contracting team. You will review project plans, prepare bid documents, and analyze costs for a broad range of electrical projects.

Ideal candidates have at least 5 years in estimating in the electrical industry, a technical degree, and proficiency with Bluebeam and Accubid estimating software. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in estimating/electrical industry
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • Knowledge of electrical materials and installation methods
  • Experience with large mission critical projects preferred
  • Proficiency with estimating tools is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Review plans/specs and bid documents to create bid proposals.
  • Calculate electrical construction costs from documents.
  • Analyze bids for value engineering and job conditions.
  • Identify conflicts in bid documents and devise strategies for bid advantages.
  • Request quotes from vendors and review for accuracy.

Job description

We are a multidisciplinary electrical firm with the in-house expertise to plan, construct, install, and fully integrate a full range of electrical, control, and telecom systems. We offer a comprehensive line of innovative electrical solutions, performing work collaboratively—under one roof—to help us lower costs, increase accuracy, and promote project efficiency.

Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for estimating and performing cost analysis on all types of electrical construction projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project documents to identify what is needed for a project and to create a bid proposal.
  • Calculate the cost of electrical construction based on reviewing and evaluating available documents.
  • Analyze project for value engineering options while taking into account specific job conditions that may affect labor and material to be purchased and installed.
  • Identify any inconsistent issues, conflicts, and other problems in the bid documents.
  • Identify strategies to create bid advantages.
  • Anticipate potential problems and devise solutions proactively.
  • Request material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers.
  • Review quotes to confirm adherence to quote requests and accuracy of quotes received.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with vendors.
  • Prepare bid documents including specific scope letter for each project, "Blue Sheets" and "Evaluations" with adjustments for buy-outs, labor rate, productivity, etc.
  • Assist in preparing budget pricing.
  • Keep Dynalectric management, project management, clients, general contractors, and all others involved in projects current on bid progress.
Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience in the estimating and/or electrical industry role
  • BSc/BA in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • Knowledgeable with a wide variety of electrical materials and methods of installation
  • Proven successful experience in Large Mission Critical projects, healthcare, Multi-story/Mixed-use Commercial buildings
  • Proficient in Bluebeam Review is preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Accubid Classic/Pro estimating software
  • Accubid Live Count experience is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Proficient with vendor review and analysis process
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Estimator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The Estimator is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Mostly office based. Typical working hours for an Estimator may vary. Generally, Monday – Friday during normal business hours, but when deadlines approach, they may be required to work much longer hours, including some weekend work. Some travel may be required for training/continuing education.
