Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Sales and Service Engineer in Pittsburgh to develop our service business by scoping work, estimating costs, and scheduling projects. You will perform on-site tuning of combustion systems and furnace components, and build quotes from man-hour estimates and tools costs for final presentation to customers.

Travel is extensive as you identify retrofit opportunities, assist in commissioning new equipment, and support service delivery.

Qualifications

• Hands-on aptitude with combustion equipment and controls.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work independently or in a group.
• Engineering Technician or Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
• Understanding of NFPA safety code is required.
• Familiarity with CRM software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Acts as primary customer contact during proposal, quoting, and services phase to identify needs.
• Develops service scope of work and compiles quotes from man-hours and tool costs.
• Performs service on equipment such as reheats, annealing furnaces, burners, fans, heat exchangers, and convective coolers.
• Identifies retrofit and new equipment opportunities within customer facilities.
• Assists in commissioning of new equipment.
• Extensive travel to customer sites is required.

What You'll Do

• Works as a point of contact with the customer in the proposal / quoting / services sales phase of the project to identify customer needs.
• Develops the service scope of work. Compiles quotes from man-hour estimates and tools costs and transfers this into a final quotation format as presented to the customer.
• Develop a familiarity with furnace equipment so as to respond to customer maintenance needs. Perform service on equipment such as reheat furnaces, annealing furnaces, burners, fans, heat exchangers, and convective coolers.
• Act as first line of contact within the customer facility to identify retrofit and new equipment opportunities.
• Assist in commissioning of new equipment.
• Extensive Travel is required.
