Remote with 40% Travel within Region | 150-175k Base Salary | Permanent Placement
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Sales Director to lead a large, mission-critical regional sales organization. This individual will operate as a business owner for the region, taking accountability for sales performance, margin, market share, P&L results, and the development of the sales organization.
This is not a high-level leadership role that manages from behind a desk. The Sales Director will translate broad company and VP-level goals into an actionable regional strategy, coach and develop Regional Sales Managers, partner closely with Operations, and regularly get into the field with the sales organization and key customers.
The official role is responsible for regional sales strategy, P&L performance, pricing, strategic accounts, forecasting, pipeline execution, and cross-functional partnership with Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Finance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the regional sales strategy and results, including revenue, margin, market share, forecasting, and P&L performance.
- Translate high-level organizational goals into a clear sales strategy, KPIs, action plans, and expectations for the regional team.
- Lead and develop Regional Sales Managers, ensuring they are effectively coaching and holding their own teams accountable.
- Oversee a large regional organization of approximately 30-40 indirect team members.
- Stay hands-on and in the field, including riding alongside the sales team, observing customer calls, meeting strategic customers, and intervening when results are off track.
- Assess performance gaps and develop corrective strategies when a team, territory, or region is underperforming.
- Create an effective sales team structure and ensure the right people are in the right roles.
- Own strategic accounts, pipeline execution, pricing discipline, and forecast accuracy.
- Use data, KPIs, and pipeline analytics to challenge assumptions and make informed commercial decisions.
- Partner closely with Operations to ensure sales commitments align with inventory, logistics, lead times, delivery capabilities, and customer expectations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, and Operations throughout the quote-to-delivery process.
- Build a high-performance, accountable sales culture where leaders are comfortable providing direct feedback and addressing underperformance.
Must-Haves
- 10+ years of progressive B2B sales experience, including significant sales leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing other sales leaders/managers, not just individual sales representatives.
- Experience leading a large regional sales team, territory, or comparable business unit.
- Proven ability to take broad organizational goals and build an executable sales strategy around achieving them.
- Strong P&L ownership with accountability for revenue, margin, sales performance, and business results.
- Proven success building, coaching, and holding high-performing sales teams accountable.
- Experience identifying underperformance and creating actionable plans to turn around results.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end sales process, from pipeline and customer engagement through execution and delivery.
- Experience partnering directly with Operations and/or Supply Chain in a B2B environment.
- Highly data-driven with experience using KPIs, forecasting, pipeline analytics, and performance metrics to drive decisions.
- Comfortable being a hands-on leader who spends significant time in the field with managers, sales representatives, and customers.
- Ability to travel 25%-40%.
Why This Role Matters
This is a highly visible leadership position with direct influence over the performance of a major regional sales organization. The Sales Director will have the autonomy to evaluate the current organization, develop the regional strategy, strengthen leadership capability, improve accountability, and drive measurable commercial results.
This person will not simply maintain an established sales organization. They will be expected to build, coach, challenge, and improve it.
