Job summary

Samsara is seeking a seasoned Sales Compensation Manager to lead the administration of sales incentives and ensure accurate commissions across US-based teams. The role collaborates with Sales, Finance, and Technology to scale compensation programs in a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities include managing commissions, plans, inquiries, and SOX controls, while driving efficiency and AI-enabled improvements in the compensation process. This is a remote role for candidates in the United States.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a Sales Compensation role at a high-growth tech company or 500+ employees
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills
  • Experience with automated sales commissions systems and their setup/operation
  • Proven collaboration in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and business acumen
  • Proven track record of process improvements enabled by AI

Responsibilities

  • Join the Sales Compensation team within Accounting to scale revenue operations.
  • Administer sales variable payments (commissions, draws, MBOs, SPIFFs) per monthly processes.
  • Ensure commission plans are applied consistently and calculations comply with policies.
  • Maintain plan documents/templates and distribute to employees on incentive plans.
  • Address inquiries, adjustments and corrections promptly for a positive employee experience.
  • Validate accruals and payment results; provide drivers for fluctuations.
  • Offer insights on drivers of commission variances and business impact.
  • Document monthly/quarterly close processes and audits for SOX compliance.
  • Support plan participant setup (new hires, terminations, changes).
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing for configuration changes in the incentive tool.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to scale operations as Samsara grows.
  • Champion Samsara culture and principles in daily work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Samsara is seeking a highly motivated and seasoned Sales Compensation Manager to join our fast-paced Sales Compensation team within the Accounting department. In this role, you will help scale our revenue-generating operations by implementing and administering sales compensation programs. You will work collaboratively with Sales Management, Sales Operations, Finance and Business Technology teams to ensure incentive plans are implemented correctly and commissions are paid accurately. The ideal candidate is analytical, deadline driven, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask.
  • This is a remote role open to candidates residing in the US except Alaska, California, Denver Metro (CO), Boulder Metro (CO), Chicago Metro (IL), Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Seattle Metro (WA), Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Austin Metro (TX), Houston Metro (TX), Dallas Metro (TX), Virginia, Washington DC.
  • Administer sales variable payments, including commissions, draws, MBOs, and SPIFFs in accordance with the monthly commission process and company policies for the commissionable employees in assigned sales teams who require a moderate level of plan administration complexity
  • Understand and apply the commission plan consistently, ensuring commission calculations comply with policies and manage exception requests
  • Maintain sales comp plan documents templates and execute distribution, ensuring accurate and timely to each employee on an incentive plan
  • Address commissions inquiries, adjustments and corrections in a timely manner, providing a positive employee experience when resolving
  • Validate accrual and payments results for assigned segments. Provide business drivers for fluctuations
  • Provide insights on business drivers of commissions result variances
  • Document and maintain business processes for monthly/quarterly close, commission accounting tasks, and audits
  • Support commission plan participant setup, including new hires, terminations, and in-year and/or year-over-year change and complete relevant audit controls for SOX compliance
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing for new and/or modified configuration to execute sales comp plan changes in the sales incentive administration tool
  • Identifying and contribute to process improvements to scale Sales Compensation operations with Samsara’s growth
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Requirements
  • 5+ years in a Sales Compensation role; experience at a high-growth technology company or company with 500+ employees on a commission is a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills; advanced skills in Google Sheets and/or MS Excel
  • Experience in automated sales commissions systems and their set-up and operation (e.g. Xactly, Captivate IQ, Varicent, Everstage, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, proven attention to detail, good business acumen and awareness of business trends, high degree of motivation, responsibility, and flexibility
  • Proven track record of process improvements made through AI
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
