Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington in Dale City, VA is seeking a customer-focused sales associate to be the face of our store. You will greet customers, assist with purchases, ring up sales, and help keep the floor tidy and well-stocked while delivering friendly, efficient service.

The role requires standing for long periods, basic math, and accurate cash handling, with a neat appearance and professionalism as you engage with the community every day.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all customers
• Ability to settle customer complaints
• Ability to perform basic math skills
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift)
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections
• Maintains clean professional appearance

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.2. Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner3. 1. Maintain an orderly and clean register area 3. Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary4. Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms) 5. Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

1. A minimum of six months of previous work experience2. High School Diploma or equivalent3. Previous experience working in a retail environment4. Excellent customer service related skills 5. Working knowledge of a cash register6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
