Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington in Rockville, MD seeks a Retail Associate to be the face of our store. You will deliver friendly service, help customers find products, and process transactions with accuracy.

You’ll join a collaborative team with opportunities for growth, competitive benefits, and a strong commitment to our community. This on-site role emphasizes cash handling, merchandise presentation, and memorable customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers
• Provide exceptional customer service to all customers
• Ability to settle customer complaints
• Basic math skills
• Ability to stand for up to 7 hours per shift and lift up to 40 pounds
• Basic computer and internet knowledge

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and courteous service to customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections
• Maintains clean professional appearance
• Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

• 6. Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently
• 7. Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• 2. High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3. Previous experience working in a retail environment
• 4. Excellent customer service related skills
• 5. Working knowledge of a cash register
• 6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
