Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington in Rockville, MD, is seeking a friendly Retail Associate to help customers, ring up sales, and keep merchandise neatly displayed. You will provide professional and courteous service in-store, on the phone, and for inquiries around purchases.

The role emphasizes accurate cash handling, fast checkout, and product knowledge. You will contribute to a positive shopping experience while upholding store appearance and security procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints and perform basic math.
• Ability to stand for long periods (up to 7 hours) and lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Ensures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Rings items accurately on the register and handles cash to make change.
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer questions promptly.
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and assists customers with purchases.
• Maintains a clean, professional appearance and area around the register.
• Performs general housekeeping and store upkeep duties as assigned by management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• 2. Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• 3. Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• 4. Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• 5. Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• 6. Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• 7. Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• 3. Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• 4. Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• 5. Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• 1. A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• 2. High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3. Previous experience working in a retail environment
• 4. Excellent customer service related skills
• 5. Working knowledge of a cash register
• 6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
