Base pay: $75,000 per year, plus additional performance compensation tied to weighted scorecard results. The better you perform against the scorecard, the more you can earn.
Work type: Full-time, in-person
Location: Wadsworth, Ohio, serving Northeast Ohio clients
Is this you?
You are a proven sales professional and new-business hunter who consistently looks for the next right opportunity. Sales experience is the most important qualification for this position. You can build trust with a client, understand what they are really trying to accomplish, and guide them toward a landscape solution that is both valuable and profitable.
A landscape, horticulture, design/build, construction, or related background is strongly preferred, but we will prioritize demonstrated sales ability, prospecting discipline, consultative selling, and follow-through. You are organized enough to manage a pipeline, disciplined enough to follow our sales process, and confident enough to qualify out prospects who do not fit our ideal customer profile. You want a stable base with meaningful additional earnings tied to the quality and results of your work.
The work
As a Sales and Design professional, your primary responsibility will be selling landscape installation and design/build projects. The long-term goal is for you to develop designs and sell the work you design, guiding the client from the first conversation through a clean handoff to production. We need someone who can sell in the same consistent manner as the rest of our team and follow the company's sales process every time.
Your work will include:
- Developing and selling landscape installation and design/build projects, including hardscape and drainage work.
- Creating practical landscape concepts and designs that respond to the client's goals, budget, and property—and selling the work you design.
- Using UVision design software, or a comparable CAD or landscape-design program, to develop and communicate project concepts. Experience with UVision is welcome; experience with another design or CAD platform is also valuable.
- Meeting with prospective and current clients to understand needs, budget, timing, and decision-making priorities.
- Completing site walks and identifying enhancement opportunities each month.
- Supporting monthly enhancement sales while keeping your primary focus on landscape and design/build opportunities.
- Prospecting consistently for new work instead of relying only on assigned or inbound leads.
- Screening and qualifying opportunities against our ideal customer profile before investing time in estimates and proposals.
- Preparing accurate estimates and proposals using production information, budgeted revenue-per-hour expectations, and company standards.
- Presenting scope and value clearly—not simply competing on price.
- Using storytelling to help clients understand the opportunity, connect emotionally with the outcome, and see the value of the proposed solution.
- Identifying each client's core pain points, connecting those pain points to practical solutions, and explaining how C&S's work will improve the property and the client's experience.
- Presenting good, better, and best options so clients can make informed decisions.
- Being open to phasing projects when that helps clients meet their budgets while preserving a clear long‑term plan.
- Managing leads, estimates, proposals, and follow-up in LMN and the company's sales tracking systems.
- Reviewing leads, estimates, and sales weekly through our Compass sales‑tracking process. Compass helps us understand average job size, close rates, incoming leads, estimates written, revenue produced, and how your pipeline compares with your close rate.
- Meeting weekly with the company president for a one‑on‑one focused on metrics, coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Attending the Monday morning production meeting to maintain clear communication and alignment between sales, operations, and production.
- Following a sales forecast created with you at the beginning of the year and using it to plan the activity needed to reach your sales goal.
- Recording client meetings when required and using the company's internal AI system to document conversations, clarify scope, and help ensure important details are not missed.
- Building and maintaining a healthy sales pipeline.
- Completing the company's sales‑to‑production handoff process every time, ensuring operations receives clear scope, expectations, documentation, and next steps.
- Working closely with operations and production so sold work is clear, complete, and ready to execute.
- Staying involved enough after the sale to help protect the client relationship and solve issues responsibly.
- Participating in networking, industry events, and local business development activities.
What success looks like
- You consistently create and advance qualified landscape and design/build opportunities instead of relying only on inbound leads.
- You develop designs that reflect client goals and successfully sell the work you design.
- You sell at least $1.5 million in qualified work while achieving a minimum 50% gross profit.
- Your estimates meet the company's budgeted revenue-per-hour expectations.
- Your proposals are accurate, compelling, and aligned with company profitability standards.
- You uncover the client's real pain points and clearly connect them to the recommended solution.
- You use storytelling and good, better, and best options to help clients understand value and choose confidently.
- You can phase work thoughtfully when needed to respect the client's budget without losing the overall design vision.
- You complete monthly site walks and turn appropriate enhancement opportunities into additional work.
- • You follow the same sales process and standards used across the company.
- You use Compass consistently to understand your activity, pipeline, close rate, average job size, estimates, and revenue production.
- You come prepared for a weekly one‑on‑one with the company president to review metrics, receive coaching, and act on opportunities to improve.
- You attend the Monday morning production meeting and contribute to clear communication between sales, operations, and production.
- You follow the annual sales forecast and adjust your activity early when you are not on pace to reach the goal.
- Client meetings are documented accurately, and internal AI tools are used to strengthen scope clarity and reduce missed details.
- You complete the sales‑to‑production handoff process every time, creating clear communication between sales and operations and minimizing avoidable confusion after the sale.
- Clients receive responsive, professional communication and realistic expectations.
How performance compensation works
This role includes a weighted performance scorecard rather than a vague discretionary bonus or a simple revenue‑only commission. Additional compensation is connected to the results that matter in this seat, including areas such as:
- At least $1.5 million in qualified landscape and design/build sales
- Minimum 50% gross profit on sold work
- Estimates that meet budgeted revenue-per-hour expectations
- Qualified pipeline development and new‑business prospecting
- Design quality, proposal activity, and close performance
- Monthly site walks and enhancement sales activity
- Consistent use of the company sales process and ideal‑customer screening
- Client communication, handoff quality, follow‑through, accountability, and teamwork
The scorecard is designed to reward complete performance: creating the opportunity, selling the right work, protecting profitability, and setting the production team up to succeed.
Important compensation note: The exact weighting and payout schedule for the scorecard will be explained during the hiring process and may be refined as C&S continues improving the role.
Where it goes
A strong performer can grow into a Sales Manager role or move toward a more strategic position within the company. The role can also expand into larger or more complex design/build opportunities. Advancement depends on consistent results, professionalism, accountability, ability to improve the sales system, and business need—not simply time in the seat.
Why C&S
C&S Lawn Service and Landscape grows by developing people, serving the community, and delivering exceptional landscapes. Our standards are grounded in safety, community, accountability, professionalism, empowerment, and attention to detail.

We expect our team to use technology naturally, follow consistent systems, and keep improving how we work.
