Job summary

Skyport is seeking a Safety Specialist reporting to the Director, EHS to provide safety-related training and orientation for airport operations and oversee contractor safety and environmental compliance.

The role supports day-to-day implementation of Skyport’s safety commitments, including newsletters, meetings, inspections, and handling of contractor safety requirements for compliance with local laws and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years related work experience, including training, coordination, and execution of EHS programs, preferably in the aviation industry.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.

Job description

Reporting to the Director, EHS, the Safety Specialist will provide safety-related training and orientation programs for airport operations and oversee contractors and construction-related safety and environmental compliance. The Safety Specialist will provide day-to-day support to the Director, EHS, in the implementation and maintenance of Skyport’s safety commitments including the coordination of Safety newsletters; Safety meetings; recurrent EHS inspections and issuance of inspection reports; and maintaining contractor safety requirements to enhance continued compliance with local laws, safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Supports the Director, EHS with EHS advisory services, guidance and expertise to Skyport staff, management, tenants and external contractors as required for safe and efficient airport operations;
  • Assist in the development, implementation, communication, monitoring and improvement of EHS plans and programs for operations;
  • Conducting periodic audits and inspections of Skyport facilities, airport tenant facilities and any airport construction projects;
  • Provide internal Safety training programs as required;
  • Maintain records related to EHS related inspections, audits, safety investigations, corrective action plans, reports, and monitoring results as required;
  • Assist in identifying workplace hazards and risks, and ensure that appropriate control measures are put in place to reduce risk;
  • Support all safety promotional initiatives led by Skyport, to help foster a positive safety culture across the airport community. This may include but is not limited to creating and distributing a weekly "Safety Bites" newsletter to employees and airport stakeholders, participating in quarterly FOD walks, assisting in the planning and facilitation of Airport Safety Week, and otherwise communicating key safety, compliance, and EHS updates across the airport community;
  • Provide assistance on environmental monitoring events to support Skyport’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP). This includes planning, logistics, and supporting sampling collection, as needed, for water, noise, air quality, biological and soil monitoring;
  • Provide assistance on environmental remediation events, ensuring that adequate remediation of a given environment release has been completed per Skyport’s Spill Prevention & Counter Control Plan (SPCCP). When remediation projects occur in response to environmental emergencies, irregular work hours and schedule may be required to accommodate operational needs and restrictions;
  • Maintain accurate inventory of EHS supplies and materials within Skyport’s Vortex database and notify the Director, EHS when a re-order of supplies is needed;
  • Assist with Emergency Planning and Response process (i.e. emergency response to spills, environmental hazards, terminal fire evacuations, etc.), as required and directed by the Director, EHS;
  • Interaction with and reporting to regulatory agencies regarding incidents, emergencies, approvals and compliance issues, as well as the maintenance of these permits and approvals;
  • Conduct incident investigations in accordance with Skyport policy and local regulations;
  • Responsible to read, understand and comply with all company policies, applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and manuals

  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment
