Salary
Salary Range: $77,193 - $132,855. Final salary offer will be based on relevant skills and experience to the position.
Job Summary
The Manager, Safety Management Systems (SMS) Administrator is responsible for the development, day‑to‑day management, implementation, and continuous improvement of the airport’s SMS in accordance with 14 CFR Part 139, Subpart E. They serve as the operational lead for SMS activities including hazard identification, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion, coordinate safety processes across departments, facilitate risk assessments, and ensure effective tracking of hazards, mitigations, and safety performance while strengthening a proactive safety culture and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain compliance with 14 CFR Part 139, Subpart E Airport Safety Management System, and support the development and integration of SMS across airport operations.
- Administer and manage SMS program elements including hazard reporting, safety risk assessments (SRAs), and mitigation tracking.
- Facilitate and coordinate Safety Risk Assessments, ensuring proper documentation, risk analysis, and follow‑up actions.
- Maintain and continuously improve SMS documentation, including the SMS Manual, hazard logs, risk register, and tracking systems.
- Conduct safety observations, site visits, and field engagement to identify hazards and verify effectiveness of mitigations.
- Manage SMS data systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to track safety performance and trends.
- Develop and track Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) and safety objectives.
- Prepare safety performance reports for leadership.
- Coordinate and lead SMS Working Group and safety committee activities, including agendas, documentation, and action tracking.
- Serve as the primary liaison between SMS and operational departments to ensure alignment and integration of safety processes.
- Support and participate in incident reviews, safety investigations, and root cause analyses.
- Develop and support SMS training, safety communications, and safety promotion initiatives.
- Support internal audits, program evaluations, and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain regular and on‑time attendance.
- Follow all safety regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and FAA SMS requirements.
- Ability to facilitate risk assessments and apply risk‑based decision making.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and track actions to completion.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital safety tracking tools (e.g., dashboards, GIS, Survey123, hazard databases).
- Ability to prepare professional reports, presentations, and materials for leadership.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 2-4 years of direct experience developing, implementing or maturing a SMS program within an airport or similarly regulated operational environment
- 4-7 years of experience in aviation safety, airport operations, or safety program management
- Valid Driver's License – Class D
Preferred
- Master's degree in a related field
- 4-7 years of experience serving as a primary owner or lead for SMS program development and implementation
- Certified Member of the American Association of Airport Executives
- Airport Certified Employee of the American Association of Airport Executives
