We are currently seeking a Safety Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe jobsite environment and promoting Hourigan’s core safety values, ensuring compliance among employees and subcontractors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support and exemplify Hourigan’s safety culture by adhering to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Train team members and partners on safety protocols and expectations.
  • Conduct jobsite inspections under the Safety Director’s guidance, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with safety training sessions, orientations, and first aid/CPR training.
  • Lead or support weekly safety meetings.
  • Participate in pre-construction safety planning meetings, addressing safety needs and concerns.
  • Verify subcontractors’ safety training and compliance with equipment safety standards.
  • Help develop site-specific safety procedures.
  • Ensure employees are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and manage PPE inventory.
  • Serve as a resource for resolving safety issues on-site.
  • Support positive safety and health outcomes aligned with Hourigan’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of safety and environmental health experience in commercial construction (preferred but not required).
  • OSHA 30, OSHA 510, or OSHA 500 certification required.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required.
  • Knowledge of construction safety principles, OSHA regulations, and safety techniques.
  • Ability to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in high-speed environments, climb stairs/ladders, and endure temperature extremes.
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and capable of working independently or in teams.
  • Strong integrity, fairness, and a customer-centric approach.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
