Location: Remote in Minnesota or Illinois
Purpose:
The Traveling Safety Specialist plays a critical role in promoting and maintaining a culture of safety on Energy Division job sites across multiple states. Under the guidance of the Safety Manager, this entry-level position is responsible for supporting all aspects of safety performance, compliance, and reporting. This role requires a working knowledge of OSHA regulations and Knobelsdorff safety protocols to assist General Superintendents, Construction Managers, and Project Teams in executing projects safely and efficiently. As a 100% travel-based position, the Safety Specialist will work remotely, gaining valuable field experience and developing into a strategic safety professional.
Responsibilities:
- Work alongside and advise/mentor the project team on Knobelsdorff's safety policies and procedures.
- Provide education and training to the project team, as needed.
- Oversee and audit project-level safety documentation, adhering to Knobelsdorff standards.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and OSHA Regulations.
- Ability to conduct safety audits and incident investigations.
- Ability to partner with project teams on determining root cause and appropriate corrective actions.
- Supervise employee adherence to all safety rules and regulations and take appropriate action for violations.
- Create, prepare, and coordinate: mandated safety statistics and trip reports required for compliance.
- Knowledge of Risk Assessment procedures and mitigation strategy implementation.
- Assist field personnel on-site with mitigation strategies for EHS/OHS challenges.
- Attend “Tailgate” meetings prior to work to discuss job site hazards, JHA completion, daily issues, and best practices, and provide coaching and mentorship to the team.
- Assist with pre-construction preparation and coordination from a Safety perspective.
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel and work occasionally in the evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications:

- Must be available to travel extensively (up to 100%) within regional states, including overnight stays for weeks at a time.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- First Aid/CPR/AED/Fall Protection Competent Person Certified or willingness to obtain upon hire
- OSHA 30 Construction DOT card within the last 5 years or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Prefer one year of experience as a Safety Coordinator/specialist or similar role.
- Prefer experience in the electrical industry and/or NFPA 70, 70E and 70B
- Safety certification is desired but not required (GSP,CSP,ASP,CHST)
- Possess fluent bilingual language skills, Spanish preferred.
- Experience with basic Project and Construction field administration.
- Knowledge of electrical and/or photovoltaic (solar) construction.
- Possess and maintains a valid driver’s license that represents a history of safe & competent driving.
- Competency in Microsoft applications (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- An associate’s degree in safety management or construction management is a bonus
- MEWP, Forklift, and Skid steer Trainer certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- OSHA 510,511,501,500 certifications desired, but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, walk, and sit for long periods of time
- Must be capable of working in inclement conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs.
