Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation seeks a Safety Officer I (NS) to support the Division safety program. You will administer safety initiatives, deliver trainings, and conduct audits to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires analyzing trends, coordinating training, incident investigations, and corrective actions while collaborating with division leadership and frontline staff. A valid CDL knowledge and strong MS Office skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a major in safety management or related field and at least one year of progressive safety experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of State, Federal, OSHA Safety and Health standards.
• Ability to develop and deliver safety training to large groups.
• Familiarity with MUTCD requirements and field application.
• Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Act and OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Administer assigned safety initiatives within the Division safety program.
• Deliver a wide range of safety training to employees.
• Conduct comprehensive worksite, facility, and operational audits to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain accident and injury records and coordinate division-wide safety meetings, investigations, and corrective action tracking.
• Contribute to division safety campaigns and health and safety events; serve as Division training coordinator.
