Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive safety leadership in utility construction or related industries.
  • Professional certification such as CHST, CUSP, CSP required.
  • Strong OSHA, ANSI/ASSP knowledge and safety management systems.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and incident investigation skills.

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs across Alvah Contracting LLC projects to ensure a safe and compliant work environment for employees, project teams, and stakeholders. This role works closely with operations leadership, field management, clients, and project personnel to promote a culture of safety excellence and ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and client standards.

The Safety Manager provides leadership in safety planning, field inspections, incident prevention, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position is accountable for monitoring project safety performance, conducting audits and investigations, identifying and mitigating hazards, and driving corrective actions to reduce risk and prevent incidents. Through active engagement with field teams and leadership, the Safety Manager fosters accountability, strengthens safety awareness, and ensures all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and client-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage safety programs, standards, and performance expectations across all projects.
  • Prequalify and review safety documentation, training records, certifications, and safety performance metrics.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct field audits, inspections, and jobsite observations to identify hazards and verify compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze safety performance data, trends, and leading indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, orientations, and training initiatives.
  • Partner with operations, project management, procurement, and safety teams to align subcontractor safety expectations and project execution plans.
  • Support regulatory reporting, client audits, and compliance reviews related to subcontractor activities.
  • Develop performance scorecards and evaluate safety performance, providing coaching and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with leadership to promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and influence stakeholders by championing a proactive safety culture, encouraging ownership, engagement, and shared responsibility for safety excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive safety experience, including oversight of contractors or subcontractors in utility construction, heavy civil, electrical infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Professional certification such as CHST, CUSP, CSP, or other accredited safety certification required.
  • Advanced safety leadership training and demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI/ASSP standards, and contractor safety management systems.
  • Strong understanding of subcontractor qualification, compliance management, risk assessment, and incident investigation processes.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence subcontractor and operational leadership at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, conflict resolution, and coaching skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience leveraging safety data to improve performance.
