Job summary

ELMHS is seeking a Safety and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator in Jackson, LA, who will lead safety and emergency readiness efforts for the agency. The role focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting inspections, coordinating training, and reporting on safety metrics.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in safety inspection or emergency preparedness and may hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
• Six years of full-time work experience plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
• A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR
• An advanced degree.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and coordinate the activities and development, planning, and implementation of a safety program for an agency designed to reduce accidents, decrease costs, and protect property and equipment.
• Conduct monthly review of department-level Hazardous Communication monitoring and compliance and ensure SDS are current and placed in appropriate locations within the departments; maintain records of all transactions.
• Maintain processes to track and report safety-initiated or safety-led projects, services, and resource requisition, use, and distribution.
• Inspect facility prior to emergency events to identify safety issues and perform post-emergency inspections with findings and solutions.
• Compile information for emergency response After Action Reports (AAR) and distribute to Administration for recordkeeping and audit requirements.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate agency safety and emergency preparedness program activities with city, state and federal agencies, including drills and training to safeguard against terrorism.
