The Bowling Green Veterans Center, a part of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, seeks a Safety Coordinator to develop and implement a comprehensive safety program for a long‑term care facility serving Kentucky’s Veterans.

You will conduct inspections, lead incident investigations, ensure regulatory compliance, and run safety training for staff. This role also covers security duties and fleet management, with a focus on fostering a culture of safety awareness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two years of experience in safety operations or inspection, incident management, or emergency services.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CMS, and state safety and health regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training.
  • CPR/First Aid instructor certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with fleet management and preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect facility machinery, equipment, and structures for safety code compliance and document findings.
  • Collect injury data and conduct incident investigations with corrective recommendations.
  • Research regulatory changes and implement policy updates across the facility.
  • Lead safety awareness programs and monthly safety meetings; oversee the Facility Safety Committee.
  • Cover security duties and manage fleet maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
  • Conduct safety and security orientation for all new employees and train on procedures.

Description

The Bowling Green Veterans Center is a Long-Term Care, 24/7 Skilled Nursing Facility dedicated to serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Veterans. Our mission is to Serve Kentucky's Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care.

The Safety Coordinator performs professional-level work in coordinating the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and health program for the Bowling Green Veterans Center. This role ensures compliance with applicable safety and health codes, conducts investigations, delivers training, and champions a culture of safety awareness throughout the facility.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following
  • Facility Inspections and Compliance — Inspect facility machinery, equipment, and structures for compliance with applicable safety and/or health codes. Document all inspections, make recommendations for modifications to enhance safety, and provide reports to the Administrator as required.
  • Incident Investigation and Data Analysis — Collect work‑related injury and accident data for in-depth analysis. Conduct accident and/or incident investigations involving employees. Report safety and/or health violations and investigation results to appropriate staff with corrective recommendations.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Policy Development — Research and review regulatory changes and inform the Administrator. Present policy and procedure changes for approval. Develop training for new regulatory requirements and ensure successful implementation across the facility.
  • Safety Committee and Awareness Programs — Develop, implement, and maintain a safety awareness and incentive program. Serve as Chairman of the Facility Safety Committee. Conduct monthly safety meetings, file reports, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Security and Fleet Management — Serve as Security Officer to cover staffing shortages and special events. Assume responsibility for fleet management, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and vehicle replacement coordination.
  • New Employee Safety Orientation — Perform Safety and Security orientation for all new employees, ensuring a foundational understanding of facility safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Skills and Expectations include but are not limited to the following:
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CMS, and state safety and health regulations applicable to skilled nursing and long‑term care facilities.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills for accident or incident root cause analysis Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training.
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and a proactive, self‑starter mindset.
  • CPR/First Aid instructor certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with fleet management and preventive maintenance programs.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Experience, Training, or Skills: Two years of experience in safety operations or inspection, incident management, or emergency services.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, safety operations and/or inspection, incident management, or emergency services experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Incumbent must be able to make oral presentations and conduct training sessions for small to large groups. Travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
