Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Safety Specialist to support a safe work environment by conducting inspections, documenting incidents, and coordinating safety programs and training at construction sites.

Responsibilities include inspecting sites for OSHA compliance, maintaining comprehensive safety documentation, and delivering training materials. The role also involves emergency response support, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring corrective actions are completed on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline, or equivalent education, training and/or experience.
• 1+ years of relevant experience.
• CPR and First Aid, OSHA 500/CHST/ASP certification preferred.
• OSHA 10hr, OSHA 30hr, OSHA 40hr training preferred.
• Solid working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or state construction safety regulations.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid problem solving skills.
• Solid customer service and organizational skills.
• Solid computer skills - experience with Microsoft Office suite and access to OSHA information online.
• Solid knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Inspect smaller, less-complex job sites for OSHA compliance.
• Document safety inspections, cite issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation including accident and inspection reports and training logs.
• Provide emergency response information and assist investigations.
• Mentor less-experienced safety staff.
• Assist with development and delivery of training materials and employee training sessions.
