Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Safety Ambassador to patrol assigned zones on foot or bike, deter unwanted activity, and assist pedestrians with directions while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.

The role requires a valid Florida driver’s license and a FL Class D Security License, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to work outdoors in all conditions. Weekly pay and benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors.
• Report to local authorities via established communication methods with accurate descriptions of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes.
• Engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting to provide directions and city information.
• Make a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks in English.

What You'll Be Doing

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
