Job summary

Block by Block in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Safety Ambassador to patrol public spaces, deter unwanted behavior, and assist pedestrians with directions. This role welcomes retirees, veterans, and students seeking first jobs.

The job offers weekly pay, pay advances, benefits, PTO, free uniforms, and a team-oriented environment. Candidates must be 18+, have an AZ Guard Card, and a HS diploma or GED, and be able to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Experience not required; we will train.
• Valid AZ Guard Card.
• HS Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to walk or bike continuously during an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather; uniforms provided.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted behavior.
• Provide information, assistance and directions to pedestrians; maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
• Observe for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to authorities.
• Request compliance for low-level quality-of-life issues.
• Engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting and provide city information.
• Make visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact details.
• Complete basic daily reports in English.

What You'll Be Doing

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance to persons violating low level quality of life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed which requires being proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language.
