Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Safety Ambassador to help keep public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. You will patrol zones on foot or bike, provide directions, and report any incidents to authorities while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.

The role is outdoors, requires CT Guard License, and benefits from a friendly, active team environment. Evening shifts and weekly pay are standard in this position.

Qualifications

• Experience required; we will train.
• CT Guard License required.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be physically able to walk or traverse (including bike) for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather; uniforms provided.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and observe for unwanted behavior.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors with a professional demeanor.
• Report to local authorities any criminal activity with accurate descriptions.
• Request compliance from violators of low-level quality-of-life crimes politely.
• Greet and engage pedestrians to share directions and city information.
• Make specified visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contacts.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks in English.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
