Job summary

Block by Block California is hiring Safety Ambassadors to patrol assigned zones on foot or by bike, ensuring public spaces are safe and welcoming. You will interact with pedestrians, provide directions, and report any incidents to authorities while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.

We offer weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, free uniforms, and an employee assistance program. This is a union position open to individuals 18+ with a valid CA guard card and a HS diploma or GED, able to work

Qualifications

• Experience preferred but training is provided.
• Must have English reading, writing and speaking skills to complete basic reports.
• CA BSIS Guard Card is required.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Ability to walk or ride a bike for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned zone on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted behavior.
• Provide information and directions to pedestrians; maintain professional demeanor.
• Identify and report suspicious activity to local authorities.
• Request compliance for low-level quality-of-life violations.
• Engage pedestrians with friendly greetings and city information.
• Visit zone businesses to share information and collect contact details.
• Complete basic daily task reports in English.

What You'll Be Doing :

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/ or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Experience preferred . We will train.
• Valid CA BSIS Guard Card required.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
