Job summary

Block by Block is hiring Safety Ambassadors to patrol assigned zones on foot or by bike, providing directions and information to pedestrians while maintaining a professional demeanor. This role emphasizes outdoor work and interaction with the public. Night shifts and weekends are required, with a 7:00pm–3:00am schedule and a 3rd shift flag.

Driver’s license preferred and must be 18+. We offer weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, free uniforms, and an employee assistance program.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred; we will train.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) for an eight-hour shift with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided).
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Identify and report unwanted behavior to local authorities as needed.

What You'll Be Doing :

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/ or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
