Job summary

Block by Block California is hiring Cleaning Ambassadors to help keep public spaces clean, friendly, and safe. The role involves outdoor cleaning tasks across assigned zones, engaging with pedestrians, and reporting on daily activities.

Ideal candidates are outgoing and able to work outside in varying conditions. We offer weekly pay, pay advances, PTO, free uniforms, and support programs, with equal opportunity employment and accommodations as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of cleaning experience preferred. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools.
• Pull weeds at base of tree wells, in cracks in sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors; complete basic daily reports in English.

What You'll Be Doing :

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal -- While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed which requires being proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language.
