Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of security-related experience.

• Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Be a visible, uniformed presence in Downtown New Haven to deter issues.
• Patrol assigned zones with high-visibility safety focus.
• Observe, report, and document suspicious activity and incidents.
• Assist pedestrians and connect individuals to local resources when appropriate.
• Record tasks and incidents using a smartphone and radio.

JOB SUMMARY

• Pay: $19/hour
• Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hrs/week)
• Shifts: Tues: 12:30 pm to 9 pm, Wed-Sat: 2:30 pm to 11 pm.
• Location: Downtown New Haven - Outdoors
• Start Date: 10/18
• Requirements: Valid Guard Card, Valid Driver's license, undergo a background check and drug screen prior to employment.

You'll serve as a visible, uniformed (employer provided) presence in the public areas of Downtown New Haven - keeping the area safe and welcoming for everyone by deterring unwanted behavior, de-escalating conflicts, and engaging with the community. We operate This is an active, outdoor foot-patrol role where you'll be making a difference every shift.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Patrol & Safety

• Conduct foot patrols through your assigned zone, maintaining a high-visibility presence to deter unwanted behavior
• Observe and report suspicious activity, quality-of-life infractions, and criminal behavior to local law enforcement and your supervisor
• Respond to and document incidents involving trespassing, loitering, public intoxication, panhandling, and similar situations
• Maintain working knowledge of local ordinances related to quality-of-life issues
• Remain alert and exercise sound judgment in unpredictable or high-stress situations

Community & Reporting

• Greet pedestrians, offer directions, and assist visitors, residents, and workers
• Interact respectfully with homeless individuals and connect them with available local resources when appropriate
• Document and report incidents, observations, and completed tasks using a smartphone and two-way radio
• Assist cleaning ambassadors with light cleaning tasks as needed

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field and knows how to de-escalate tense situations with calm, confident communication. Requirements

• Valid and Active Guard Card
• Minimum 2 years of experience in security, loss prevention, law enforcement, or military
• Demonstrated ability to de-escalate confrontational or high-stress situations
• High school diploma or GED
• Physical ability to walk continuously throughout an 8-hour shift with breaks in accordance with local laws
• Able to lift up to 25 lbs
• Able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
• Basic smartphone proficiency
• Must be at least 18 years of age

Preferred (not required)

• Customer service or hospitality experience
