Job summary

High Plains Mental Health Center in Northwest Kansas is seeking a Rural Outreach Therapist to bring behavioral health care to underserved communities. You’ll operate from a Center-operated mobile office and work with a Patient Navigator to deliver therapy, assessments, crisis services, and care coordination across our 20-county service area.

The role is full-time, in-person, Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with a $75,000 annual salary and a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree with Kansas BSRB license is required.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain licensure required by KDADS/BSRB for SUD services.
• Competency in using technology (computers, software, phones, etc.).
• Commitment to continuous improvement and applying technology effectively.

Responsibilities

• Travel to rural communities to provide therapy and assessments.
• Meet with patients for individual, family, or group therapy and complete intake or crisis services as needed.
• Coordinate care with the Patient Navigator/Support Staff to connect patients with resources.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, hospitals, schools, and community organizations to maintain care connections.
• Complete clinical documentation and follow-up between appointments.

Pay: $75,000 per year (salaried) | $3,000 SIGN-ON BONUS! [paid in installments: $1k after 90-days, $1k after six months, $1k after one year]

Instead of waiting for clients to come to the clinic, you’ll take care to them.

You’ll have a Center-operated mobile office and a Patient Navigator/Support Staff member working alongside you, giving you the tools and support to provide therapy, assessments, crisis services, and care coordination in rural communities.

Supervision here isn’t occasional or optional — it’s a core part of how we operate. You’ll receive regular clinical supervision, case consultation, and support from experienced supervisors who are actively involved in your professional development.

What You’ll Do:

• Start your day from wherever you’re based and head out to the rural community on your schedule.
• Work from a fully equipped Center-operated mobile office instead of sitting in the same clinic every day.
• Meet with patients for individual, family, or group therapy and complete intake assessments or crisis services as needed.
• Work alongside your Patient Navigator/Support Staff member to connect patients with resources, coordinate care, and address needs beyond the therapy session.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, hospitals, schools, community organizations, and other partners to help patients stay connected to care.
• Complete your clinical documentation and follow-up between appointments.
• Adjust your day based on the needs of the community and patients you’re serving.
• Stay connected to your clinical team through supervision, consultation, and ongoing support—even while working out in the field.
• Head home knowing you provided care to people who may otherwise have had to travel significant distances—or go without services altogether.

Requirements

• A Master's or Doctoral degree with a Kansas BSRB license as a:
  • Licensed Psychologist
  • Licensed Master Level Psychologist
  • Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (clinical track)
  • Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker
  • Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
• Must be willing to obtain and maintain any licensure or certification required by KDADS or BSRB to provide as‑needed SUD services.
• Competency in using technology (computers, software, telephones, etc.)
• Must demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and apply technology effectively.
