Job summary

Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) seeks a Rural Justice Initiative Policy Specialist in Austin, TX. This exempt, full-time role leads policy research, analysis, and advocacy to expand civil legal services for low-income Texans in rural areas.

The position reports to the Supervising Attorney of Education, collaborates with DRTx staff and partners, monitors legislation, and prepares policy briefs, testimony, and training materials to advance the rights of people with disabilities across the state.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least seven years in public policy, legislative, governmental, regulatory, advocacy, or related work.
• Experience with disability-related issues preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct policy research and analysis on laws affecting Texans with disabilities.
• Monitor legislation, regulatory changes, and prepare briefs and talking points.
• Develop policy reports, testimony, and training materials.
• Collaborate with RJI staff and external stakeholders to identify advocacy opportunities.
• Represent DRTx before policymakers and governmental agencies.
