Job summary

Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide advanced cardiopulmonary care under physician orders. The role demands NBRC-credentialed training, active RRT licensure, and ongoing certifications such as BLS, PALS, ACLS, or NRP.

The therapist will perform diagnostics, administer medications, monitor patients, and educate families, while ensuring documentation accuracy and contributing to safety and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program.
  • Registered by NBRC and hold a valid state license.
  • Current BLS certification; additional certifications such as PALS, ACLS, or NRP are required.
  • Strong communication skills, manual dexterity, and physical ability to lift and move patients and equipment.
  • Ability to work in busy environments, navigate crowded spaces, and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests, including arterial gases, and troubleshoot equipment for optimal patient care.
  • Administer medications safely, assess effects, and communicate patient progress to healthcare teams.
  • Monitor patient conditions, share information with physicians and nurses, and recommend appropriate care and education for patients and families.
  • Complete accurate documentation, manage supplies, and utilize time efficiently to meet productivity standards.
  • Participate in quality, safety initiatives, and process improvements, acting as a mentor and resource within the department.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, research, and quality improvement activities.
  • May float to other departments within scope, be placed on-call, and perform additional duties as assigned.
