Job summary

UAB Medicine's Sleep Center is hiring a polysomnography technician for night shifts (6pm-6:30am) at the UAB St. Vincent's East location. You will prepare patients and equipment, conduct sleep studies, and report results with clinical interpretation.

Requirements include BRPT/ABS Pattern or RPSGT certification and BLS, with a high school diploma or higher education pathway. Join Alabama's largest health system delivering comprehensive care.

  • BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • Current RPSGT with BRPT or ABSM certification is required.

Job Description

Perform basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies.

  • Prepare patient and equipment for ordered testing. Interview patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Perform and document testing. Monitor patient throughout testing and intervene as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs; score, interpret and report results of sleep studies.
  • Prepare, calibrate, repair and maintain equipment required for testing. Determine and report needed repairs/replacements.
Qualifications
  • Licensure / Certification / Registration:
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) with a certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) or Registered Sleep Technologist with the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) required.
Education
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
