Job summary

UFP Industries in Blue Island, IL seeks an Assistant Production Manager to supervise one department for three months per the PMT program, while coordinating support services and expanding knowledge of plant operations and manufacturing processes.

The role includes developing production schedules, coaching staff, ensuring efficiency and quality, and driving process improvements across multiple plant departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline, or equivalent experience is required.
• Completion of Production Management Trainee – Step 1 program and recommendation of management.
• Proficiency in MS Excel/spreadsheets is required.

Responsibilities

• Plans activity for the short-term and long-term.
• Develops department production schedule.
• Supervises a group of employees to maximize productivity.
• Ensures operations meet or exceed efficiency and quality standards.
• Identifies, researches, and resolves problems and improvement initiatives.
• Evaluates performance, coaches, and initiates corrective actions as required.
• Ensures compliance with UFP policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
• Manages inventory utilization and participates in inventory processes.
• Develops understanding of hiring processes and product costing.
• Gains knowledge of production scheduling and budget/expense control.
• Ensures machinery is properly maintained and operations comply with laws and company policy.
• Gains knowledge of Continuous Improvement, safety, and HR policies.
• Tours other locations to understand operations; participates in Safety Committee.
