Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks entry-level engineers to join the EDGE program, gaining exposure to construction, environmental, maintenance, and design roles. Participants rotate through disciplines to build broad experience and leadership skills while applying engineering knowledge in real projects.

Successful candidates will pursue the FE exam and EIT designation within 12 months, with a path to placement in available engineering roles after program completion.

Qualifications

• Ability to apply engineering knowledge to complete projects and tasks.
• Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and obtain the EIT designation within 12 months.
• Knowledge of highway construction principles and roadway design criteria.

Responsibilities

• Participate in EDGE program rotations across Construction, Environmental, Maintenance, Materials, Planning, Residency Operations, Right of Way, Roadway Design, Structure and Bridge, and Traffic Engineering.
• Contribute to project documentation and field inspections.
• Apply technical and leadership competencies to support civil engineering tasks.
