Job summary

ASM Research, An Accenture Federal Services Company, is seeking a Root Cause Engineer (RCA), Mid, to perform structured RCAs on recurring or high-impact incidents in federal IT services. You will collect and correlate evidence across logs, traces, metrics, and incident records to identify underlying causes and reconstruct incident timelines.

You will collaborate with Incident Response, Problem Management, SRE, and engineering teams; translate findings into corrective actions; and define metrics

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, business or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4–7 years in IT operations, incident/problem management, reliability engineering, or related roles with RCA responsibility.
• Strong understanding of ITIL and incident/problem management best practices.
• Expertise in at least one structured RCA method and ability to coach teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation and communication skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional technical and business teams in a fast-paced enterprise IT environment.
• Active secret clearance or higher required.

Responsibilities

• Apply RCA methodologies and select techniques based on incident complexity.
• Gather and analyze monitoring data, logs, traces, configuration records, service topology maps, and incident timelines.
• Lead cross-functional RCA sessions with operations, engineering, cybersecurity, and business teams.
• Translate RCA findings into corrective and preventive actions.
• Define and track RCA metrics like recurrence rates and cycle time.
• Support integration of RCA into ITIL-aligned Problem Management and continual service improvement.
• Produce high-quality RCA reports describing what happened, why, and prevention steps.
• Identify systemic reliability risks and patterns across incidents.
