Job summary

ASM Research, An Accenture Federal Services Company, seeks a Mid Root Cause Engineer to perform structured RCAs on critical IT incidents in federal environments. You will gather data across logs, traces, and metrics, collaborate with Incident Response, SRE, and engineering teams, and document actionable remediation steps to improve reliability and reduce recurrence.

The role requires ITIL proficiency, strong analytical and communication skills, and a current secret‑level clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT, CS, business or related field.
• 4–7 years in IT operations, incident/problem management, or reliability roles with RCA responsibility.
• Strong ITIL knowledge and proficiency with incident/problem management tools.
• Expertise in at least one structured RCA methodology and coaching others.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, facilitation and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform structured root cause analyses on recurring or high‑impact incidents.
• Collect and correlate data from logs, traces, metrics, and incident records.
• Collaborate with Incident Response, Problem Management, SRE, and engineering teams.
• Document RCA outcomes and define corrective and preventive actions.
• Define and track RCA metrics to improve timeliness and quality.
• Integrate RCA activities into ITIL‑aligned processes and continual service improvement.
• Produce RCA reports describing what happened, why, and preventive steps.
• Identify systemic reliability risks across incidents.
