Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC in Mishawaka, IN is seeking a Roll Grinder to set up and operate a grinder per customer specs and work orders. You will load tooling, follow instructions to achieve crown, finish and defect-removal targets, and maintain accurate grind records.

This on-site role requires precise measurement skills, adherence to safety rules, and the ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Training on first shift is provided, with regular hours Mon-Thu 3:00pm-1:00am and overtime on Fridays

Qualifications

• Ability to perform complete set-up and operational task of grinding to ensure compliance with customer specifications and production requirements.
• Ability to use tape measure, hardness tester, profilometer, micrometers, and calipers.
• Ability to comply with safety rules and requirements.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate grinder according to customer specifications and work orders.
• Follow work instructions to grind tooling including crown, finish, and minimizing defects.
• Remove stock with proper identification and storage and maintain records of grind data.
• Operate forklift and/or overhead crane to transport materials safely.
• Maintain proper inventory of supplies and ensure tooling life per guidelines.
• Communicate non-compliance production or quality issues to supervisor or shift lead.

Job description

As a Roll Grinder at Steel Technologies, your main responsibility is to setup and operate a grinder according to customer specifications and work orders. Your attention to detail and safety is crucial to consistent operation. This unique process is critical to our business, and you could be a critical teammate at Steel Technologies.

The regular hours for this position are Monday to Thursday 3:00pm to 1:00am (When there are overtime hours, they will be added to Friday)

*It is required to train on 1st shift for the training portion of this role, please see HR coordinator for more information

How you’ll contribute to our company:

• Ensure proper setup and determine appropriate tooling to be ground and load on the grinder
• Follow work instructions to grind tooling according to customer specifications including crown, finish, and minimum grind after removal of defects, etc.
• Remove stock with proper identification and storage
• Report accurate tooling records to include date of grind, stock removal, finish, hardness, starting and finishing O.D., crown, remarks and start/finish time
• Operate forklift and/or overhead crane to transport materials to and from storage areas and workstations safely
• Maintain proper inventory of supplies
• Follow established measurements and tooling guidelines to maintain tooling life and ensure total compliance to specifications
• Communicate non-compliance production or quality problems to supervisor and/or shift lead
