Job summary

Steel Technologies LLC is seeking a Press Operator to set up, operate, and monitor the press, ensuring adherence to customer and production requirements. You will load coils, align dies, monitor gauges, and troubleshoot issues to sustain quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SPC, X-bar and R charts and basic distribution analysis.
  • Familiarity with blanking processes and steel quality standards.
  • Understanding of safety rules and site procedures.
  • Ability to read material tags and production instructions.
  • Proven ability to use measuring tools accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate and monitor the press according to program requirements.
  • Reconcile coil identity to production and load coil.
  • Check gauge, width, hardness, camber and surface specs for compliance.
  • Set up dies, alignment, and scrap chutes/conveyors.
  • Monitor blanks and adjust setup for quality as needed.
  • Remove scrap, assist maintenance, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Communicate non-conformances to supervisor and shift lead.
  • Maintain press area housekeeping and safety practices.

Job description

As a Press Operator at Steel Technologies, your main responsibility is to set up, operates and monitors the press.

How you'll contribute to our company:
  • Reconcile coil identity to production and load coil
  • Check and record gauge, width, hardness, camber, burr, and surface requirement and ensure compliance with customer and production requirements
  • Setup the press including dies and alignment of part and scrap chutes/conveyors
  • Setup the press/levelers/flattener to the proper program or required parameters
  • Thread coil thru leveler/flattener, feed unit
  • Monitor condition of blanks to ensure compliance with customer requirements and production instructions
  • Adjust press setup as needed for quality
  • Setup skids on the parts conveyors to ensure no disruption of production
  • Remove scrap from press and empty hoppers as necessary
  • Assist maintenance to troubleshoot malfunctions or complete preventative maintenance as necessary
  • Assist press packager as needed
  • Communicate non-compliance or quality problems to supervisor and/or shift lead
  • Clean and maintain housekeeping of press area

Here's what is needed to be successful:
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control - X bar and R charts, individual moving range charts, basic distribution analysis
  • Knowledge of raw materials, blanking processes, and quality standards
  • Knowledge of steel press machines including their major components and limitations
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, digital calipers, digital/dial indicators, height gauge, computer, part specific gauges and micrometers
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to see details at close range. Ability to routinely climb stairs, ladders, or platform
  • Ability to routinely twist, bend, stoop, and squat
  • Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to repetitively reach and grasp
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds
