Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking Mechanical Engineering Interns for Robotics R&D in Santa Clara, CA. The role focuses on designing, prototyping, and integrating surgical robotics platforms to advance patient outcomes.

You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers across development stages, gaining hands-on experience in design, testing, and documentation while contributing to innovative medical device projects.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a bachelor’s, graduate or PhD degree returning to an academic program after the internship.
• Target majors include Aerospace Engineering, Automation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 reflective of all coursework.

Responsibilities

• Assist with designing and prototyping activities including CAD, manufacturing, assembly, testing, debugging, and documentation for mechanical assemblies and systems.
• Generate and present design concepts and perform design reviews to team members.
• Utilize various manufacturing methods to quickly prototype designs, including 3D printing, machining, hand tools and bonding.
• Support hardware or instrument integration, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation efforts.
• Document designs, test procedures, and root cause analysis process.
• Participate in clinical assessments of robotic devices in inanimate anatomical models
